Paula moved with her husband Vic to Kodiak in 2005 when their family was transferred by the U.S. Coast Guard. It was an easy decision to stay when Vic retired in 2010. Paula became a licensed real estate agent in January 2008, developing a reputation for service that has garnered her "Best Realtor of the Year" recognition by readers of the Kodiak Daily Mirror on several occasions. Paula opened her own franchise office in 2012. Then in 2020, she decided to drop the franchise and work as an independent real estate office.
